Achieving and maintaining a healthy body weight is
important for overall health. There are a number of
calculations that will tell you if you are in the
healthy body weight range.
Scale Weight
Weight scales measure Total Body Weight, but
are misleading as an indicator of fat loss. Eating,
drinking or going to the toilet affects scale weight,
but not fat loss. If a person is exercising regularly,
they could be increasing their muscle mass, which
weighs more than fat. This in turn will show up on
the scales as an increase in total weight
even though they may have lost some body fat.
Scale weight can also change due to hormonal changes.
Height/Weight Charts
There is no single ideal body weight, only a healthy
weight range.
