After being told by a doctor I was pre-diabetic at age 45, I knew I had to make some changes. I also had a fatty liver, high blood pressure and lots of inflammation. At 168cm tall and tipping the scales at over 110 kilos, I had a lot of weight to lose. But, being a dad of 3 young children, I had everything to gain.
Before
After
At first my doctor wanted to put me on weight loss medication but I wanted the chance to do it myself. I had lost a lot of weight once before using Lite n’ Easy (when I was 30) and decided to turn back to the only weight loss program that had ever worked for me. I combined Lite-n’ Easy lunches and dinners with intermittent fasting and my GP monitored my progress.
After just 5 months I had lost over 20 kilos and had to keep changing my goals as I kept reaching and surpassing them. I returned to my doctor and not only did she not recognise me, but she was astounded by my progress. We did new tests, and they came back healthy in all areas. I'm no longer pre-diabetic: my blood sugar and blood pressure tested in the healthy range. I was healthy again, but being healthy wasn’t enough, I wanted to be fit also.
I started running 3 days a week with the aim to get fitter and support my efforts to lose weight. At first, I would run with my 11-year-old son and struggle to keep up. I could barely run 600 meters without needing to stop and walk. Now I am running around 30kms a week, setting PBs on 10km runs and even ran my first half marathon.
Now I am under 70 kilos now and have never felt fitter or healthier. It has affected all areas of my life in a positive way. I was wearng a size XXL and am now in a small. I avoided wearing tailored shirts before and now I love them. My relationship with my children and wife is better. I get compliments from everyone who knew the old me. Most importantly, recent blood results have shown everything is in a healthy range.
I now find myself in a new stage where I am transitioning from trying to stay in calorie deficit to now learning how to fuel by body correctly to enhance my body transformation as I continue to run and add gym work to my routine.
Now the hard work really begins, and that is to maintain the new “Me” and not go back to my old ways and I am determined to do so. I will continue having Lite n’ Easy for my lunches as it just works for me.
People often ask me how I lost weight and as I tell this story I am very deliberate in saying that I am not on a diet, but what I have become is mindful of what I eat.
I honestly feel like the best version of myself since I was 30.
