My weight has fluctuated since my early 20s. However as I got older, the exercise I did regularly failed to have the desired results for weight loss. I came to accept that perhaps that was just how I was built. According to my wife, my snoring had become extreme and I was always self-conscious about my size and the example I was setting for my sons.

Over the years the changes were subtle. I had tried to convince myself that was just my body shape and that as long as I continued to exercise, I was doing the right thing. Still, it was an internal battle to accept myself that way. It wasn’t until I saw photos of myself in my forties that I realised what I was doing was not working. That’s when I made the decision to make a fundamental change: my approach to food.
Being a very structured and driven individual, Lite n’ Easy seemed to be a good fit and something worth committing to. I had tried counting calories on my own, however the structure, ease and convenience of Lite n’ Easy meant I didn’t need to plan meals anymore. I initially ordered the Lite Meal Plan (1200 calories) for 7 days per week, then switched to 5 days once I reached my goal weight.
I love all types of food, both meat and vegetarian, so having the variety of different cuisines throughout the week keeps things exciting. Convenience was also very important in choosing Lite n’ Easy. The ability to take the stress of meal preparation away from others in my family while also controlling my own outcomes was a driving force.
Another great thing is that you can swap and change what you order to suit your goals. We recently went overseas, and before we left, I tried High Protein Fruit Smoothies as a different option for breakfast. This helped me to drop a few kilos before our trip. I am currently back on the 7 Day Menu and ordering mostly from the high protein options due to my increasing my exercise schedule at the gym.
Perhaps one of the greatest things to happen out of all this is that my son Zac joined me on Lite n' Easy after seeing my success. He went on to lose 24 kilos and really turn his health around for the better. It has been motivating to compare our menus for the week and work out together towards our goals. We have both experienced significant improvements in our physical and mental health.
The results have been amazing. Prior to Lite n’ Easy, I was a heavy snorer, but that has now reduced considerably due to the weight loss. My confidence levels have also increased now that I am able to maintain a comfortable size and weight.
I no longer feel I am fighting a losing battle with my weight or beating myself up about it. I know I can control my weight using the Lite n’ Easy program and the lessons I have learnt along the way.
As the old 80/20 adage goes, "you are what you eat" and weight loss really does begin in the kitchen, not the gym. It wasn't until I realised that exercise on its own was never going to work, that I was truly able to lose the weight and keep it off. Exercise for me now is simply to maintain muscle and metabolism to stay as strong as I can beyond fifty.
As background, I am married with two adult boys. Family is my life and the driving force to remain healthy into my 50s and beyond. I like to train at the gym and socialise with friends. I am a Health and Safety Manager for a transport firm, and I use my own success to demonstrate to others that you’re never too old and your job is never too office-bound, to stay healthy.
